What is destruction? Disappearance or an opportunity for something new? In her new project, "Flowers Will Grow in the Place of Ruins," Natalia Chobanyan views destruction not as loss, but as a natural process of life, a change in form. Her observations echo Georg Simmel's reflections in his essay "Ruin," where the aesthetics of ruin embody the dichotomy of the human spirit and nature. Working in the al secco fresco technique, the artist turns to a material inherently linked to the fragility of time and memory. Thus, destruction becomes not an external force, but an intrinsic property of matter, its natural transformation. The key tone of the project is flowers emerging "in the place of ruins." Their growth neither resists destruction nor abolishes it. They become a sign of continuation and the acquisition of another form of existence—fragile, temporary, yet alive. "A ruin signifies that other forces and forms, the forces and forms of nature, have grown into the vanished and destroyed work of art, and from what remains of art and from what already exists of nature, a new integrity, a characteristic unity, has emerged."
