Wildlife Weekend by the Water - Smith and Morehouse Reservoir

This Summer Camping trip turned into a true Wildlife Weekend. Our mountain lake campsite was surrounded by life — from a moose browsing quietly along the river to deer moving through the meadows all day long. We watched sandhill cranes calling across the wetlands, spotted tiny fawns tucked into the grass, and even saw one wobbly little colt — a baby sandhill crane — following its parents around the marsh. The biggest surprise of the trip was a badger family popping in and out of their den, one of the rarest and coolest sightings we’ve had all season. Between all the wildlife moments, we spent time fishing the lake, cooking simple camp meals, and soaking in those calm summertime evenings that make summer camping feel so good.
