Smoke Twice a Day

“Smoke Twice a Day” is the second release from my upcoming project Penmanship. This song is built from a locked-room memory — fluorescent lights, hospital walls, medication, smoke breaks, confusion, dark humor, and trying to find my mind again when everything felt unreal. It’s not a fake motivational song. It’s not a clean recovery story. It’s a piece of memory told the way memory actually feels: uncomfortable, strange, blurry, funny in the wrong places, and still human. Penmanship is a project built from old writings, real memories, regret, survival, fatherhood, love, New Mexico nights, and the strange feeling of becoming somebody new while the past keeps knocking. This is the second door. If “The Past Still Shows Its Face” was about not moving back in, “Smoke Twice a Day” is about remembering one of the rooms I had to walk out of.
