"Fraudulent” home seller behind bars for murder
"Fraudulent” home seller behind bars for murder By: Selma Taapopi/Joseph Sheefeni The Beukes family from Windhoek’s Nama location have been sleeping out in the cold in front of their former home after being evicted last Thursday. This comes after a woman allegedly tricked her elderly mother into selling their home. According to the Beukes family, a 38-year-old woman allegedly took advantage of her elderly mother’s illness. The mother had suffered a light stroke, struggled with alcoholism, and is unable to read and write English. The woman, whose name is withheld, used these conditions to sell her mother’s house to a businessman for N$360 000 in 2019. According to Johan Beukes, the said relative in question is his sister who is currently serving time at the Windhoek Female Correctional Facility for killing her boyfriend in Walvis Bay. The family indicated the woman was sentenced in 2020. News on One received confirmation that the woman is serving time at the facility. The previous home-owner, 60-year-old Rebekka Beukes, said her daughter told her that she wanted to buy a car but that could only happen if paperwork is co-signed by someone who owns a house. “I did not give a house to any child. She told me that she wanted to buy a car with her father’s pension, but she needed a co-signer who owns a home. That’s what my daughter told me and I trusted her. That is why I signed where they showed me,” narrated an emotional Rebekka. Johan added that the family has opened a fraud case against her sister, and they further appealed to the State for legal assistance to have the process reversed and have the house transferred back to the original owner. Johan stressed that the family would not vacate the erven until the case is settled. Johan stated that he wants his sister to know what she is putting her mother through as they are now sleeping out in the cold with the assistance of their neighbors. The new owner told News on One last week that he has been waiting for over three years to get into his house and this has affected his business as he buys and sells property. The family is appealing to Good Samaritans for assistance. Interested parties can contact Desiree Beukes at 081265 5493 or Rye Beukes at 081698 44 65.
