The Gospel of Matthew: What Most People Miss

The first sentence of Matthew and the last sentence of Matthew say almost exactly the same thing — and almost nobody reading it front to back ever stops to lay the two side by side. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it, and everything between those two bookends suddenly makes sense as a single, deliberate argument built across 28 chapters. Matthew is the most Jewish gospel in the New Testament, written by a tax collector turned disciple who quoted the Hebrew Scriptures more than 60 times. His purpose was precise — prove to his own people that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah Israel had been waiting for. But the way he builds that proof is one of the most carefully constructed pieces of writing in the entire Bible. At the heart of it is a Greek word — plēroō — translated "fulfill," but meaning something far richer. It does not just mean prediction and payoff. It means to fill something up, to bring it to its full measure. The old promises were the right shape all along. Jesus is the wind that fills the sail. From the genealogy to the Great Commission, from the wilderness temptation to the Sermon on the Mount, from a tax collector's booth to an empty tomb — every thread Matthew weaves is there to answer one question: how can God actually be with us? This study opens that question all the way up. 📖 MEMORY VERSE "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, God with us." — Matthew 1.23 (NKJV) IN THIS VIDEO ▸ The Matthew inclusio — first and last words ▸ What plēroō really means in Greek ▸ Why Matthew wrote for a Jewish audience ▸ The genealogy's hidden three-part structure ▸ Jesus in the wilderness — rerunning Israel's test ▸ Five teaching blocks and the new Moses pattern ▸ The Sermon on the Mount and divine authority ▸ The tax collector's booth and grace ▸ The torn temple curtain and open access ▸ Great Commission — the frame snaps shut 💬 What detail from Matthew hit you differently after watching this?
