Sponsored by Botania S.C. #tulips #flowers #cultivation These flowers are associated with the coming spring, with Women's Day celebrated on March 8th, when we buy a bouquet of tulips, and perhaps all of them with the Netherlands and its largest tulip farms in the world. But the Netherlands isn't the only country known for its tulips – we have something to be proud of, too. In this episode, we'll explore hydroponic cultivation, which doesn't require soil and ensures more hygienic production. To this end, we visited one of Central Europe's leading tulip producers, the family-owned company Botania from Ożarów Mazowiecki. Let's see what the entire process looks like! The tulip cultivation process begins with the bulbs being imported from the Netherlands in the spring and from New Zealand in the fall to the cold store in Ożarów Mazowiecki, where they are stored in crates for 3-4 months in controlled conditions that simulate winter. The bulbs are then placed in growing boxes, where they are hand-stitched and labeled. The bulbs are then returned to the cold storage facility, where they are watered to encourage root development. After two weeks, they are transported to the greenhouse, where they are regularly watered and fertilized, and their growth is monitored. After approximately three weeks, the tulips are harvested, quality-controlled, and selected. They are then arranged into bouquets and packed into buckets of water and nutrient. The tulip containers are then packed onto pallets and shipped to stores. The tulip growing process is fully automated and continuously monitored.
