NYC Art Exhibits Tour: Lower East Side + Chelsea + Upper East Side | New York Art Week 2026
New York City's art scene is on fire right now — and we visited 3 galleries, covering six shows across three neighborhoods in one day. From Perrotin on the Lower East Side to Harper's in Chelsea to White Cube on the Upper East Side, add this is your NYC contemporary art gallery guide for spring 2026. 📍PERROTIN | 130 Orchard Street, Lower East Side We start on the LES at Perrotin — one of the most exciting gallery spaces in New York City. Three simultaneous shows are on view through May 30. Jens Fänge: "Antechamber" — Swedish artist Fänge fills the gallery with labyrinthine architectural settings populated by people, animals, and mannequins. Building his layered compositions from oil, vinyl, linen, and burlap, his paintings lead into one another like scenes in a film — doors and windows becoming dream-like portals into the psyche. Inspired by Nathanael West's surrealist novels, the work is uncanny, fragmented, and deeply cinematic. GaHee Park: "Half-Looking, Half-Seen" — Seoul-born Park transforms intimate domestic scenes into enigmatic and surreal worlds, populated by potted plants, animals, mirrors, and fragmented nudes. Her paintings explore the body with theatrical compositions, rich color, and a unique tension between humor and psychological unease — a contemporary alternative to traditional depictions of interior life. Nick Doyle: "Collective Hallucinations" — Brooklyn-based Doyle presents wall-mounted collages and an immersive psychic parlor installation — his first experiment with artificial intelligence. Mining the fraught relationship between land and technology, the show features his signature bleached denim works: aviators, cacti, car keys — symbols of the American West, as loaded as they are seductive. 📍HARPER'S GALLERY | 22nd Street, Chelsea JJ Manford + James Rosenquist — This two-person show pairs new works by Brooklyn-based painter JJ Manford alongside Rosenquist's little-known Gift Wrapped Doll series from the early 1990s. Both artists draw on artifacts from popular culture: Manford constructs vibrant domestic interiors layered with oil stick and dense pattern — tapestry-like and tactile — while Rosenquist's surfaces are slick and industrially precise, his doll faces at once seductive and unsettling. Together, they trace a shared obsession with surrogate figures and manufactured desire. The show has already closed, but we caught it in time — don't miss the recap. 📍WHITE CUBE | Upper East Side David Hammons & Jannis Kounellis (May 1 – June 13, 2026) — The first two-person exhibition of these two legendary artists in over 30 years. The show revisits a pivotal moment when they met and exhibited together in the early 1990s at the American Academy in Rome. Bringing together key works from the 1950s onward, the presentation celebrates their friendship and a shared material intelligence — Hammons's conceptual sharpness meeting Kounellis's Arte Povera legacy in a dialogue that feels as urgent as ever. 📍GLACE | Upper East Side We wrap up the day at Glace with a hazelnut hot chocolate — the perfect ending to a full day of art in New York City. ►► Subscribe for more art-focused videos: / @soundsofny 🎥 Shot, edited & original music by soundsofnewyork Other videos you may be interested in: • NYC Art Museums Tours 00:00 - Intro: NYC Lower East Side 00:37 - Perrotin Gallery | Lower East Side: Jens Fänge: Antechamber 02:57 - GaHee Park: Half-Looking, Half-Seen 03:47 - Nick Doyle: Collective Hallucinations 06:32 - Harper's Gallery | Chelsea: JJ Manford + James Rosenquist 08:50 - White Cube | Upper East Side: David Hammons & Jannis Kounellis 11:17 - Glace: Hazelnut Hot Chocolate #NYCGalleries #NewYorkArt #ContemporaryArt #ArtGalleryNYC #PerrotinGallery #HarpersGallery #WhiteCube #LowerEastSide #Chelsea #UpperEastSide #NickDoyle #JensFange #GaheePark #JJManford #JamesRosenquist #DavidHammons #JannisKounellis #NYCArtWeek2026 #GalleriesNYC #NYCArtGuide #ArtTour #ConceptualArt #ArtePoVera #NYCArtScene #soundsofnewyork
