Diving the wreck of SAN FRANCISCO MARU - Truk Lagoon
The 5,831grt passenger cargo vessel San Francisco Maru is one of the oldest wrecks in Truk Lagoon - and perhaps the most famous. She was launched in 1919 and requisitioned by Japan for war use in 1942. She was bombed and sunk by aircraft from U.S. Task Force 58 carriers at Truk Lagoon during Operation Hailstone on 17/18 February 1944. She now lies in 65 metres of water and is still filled with her wartime cargo of battle tanks, munitions, trucks, tankers and torpedoes.
