« Constellation Genji monogatari » | Estelle Bauer
Considered one of the first psychological novels in history, "The Tale of Genji" (Genji monogatori) recounts the dramatic life of Prince Genji over several decades, from his youth to his death. Dating from the 11th century, this complex work, attributed to the court writer Murasaki Shikibu, has had a profound influence on Japanese literature and culture, still very much present in contemporary Japan. Estelle Bauer, a researcher at INALCO in association with the Bodmer Lab, has studied the 250 illustrations in a digitized edition of the collection, as part of an iconographic collection created on the model of those for Faust or La Fontaine's Fables. The results of this ongoing research will be presented at this event. Recorded on Sunday, October 16.
