In order to identify the spirit Aoinoue’s vassal (waki tsure) summons the Shamaness Teruhi (shite tsure) to perform the azusa rite with a catalpa bow whereupon the vision of a woman appears (shite). She reveals herself to be the spirit of Lady Rokujo who was humiliated by Aoinoue and harbors deep pain from their encounter wishing to abscond with the first wife to the underworld. Thanks to the Heart Sutra prayers of the priest, Lady Rokujo’s evil spirit is quelled and she receives some spiritual release.
