The walk begins at the ruins of an old 15th century church, its tall tower still standing against the sky, a weathered landmark on this low and shifting coast. It stands on the site of a much larger medieval settlement, now swallowed by the natural law of cause and effect. The path leads away from the crumbling walls, through quiet fields and along a narrow, sandy track bordered by woodland, the canopy filtering the light as the trail gently descends toward the sea. Emerging from the trees, the beach opens wide — a wild stretch of golden sand framed by crumbling clay cliffs, scattered with the sand-blasted trunks of trees that once stood on the clifftop above. The North Sea stretches to the horizon, restless and grey-green, its waves rolling in with a steady, rhythmic crash that fills the air with salt and spray. The route turns north along the shore, following the coastline, the shingle underfoot giving way to softer sand as the cliffs rise steeply on one side, their faces marked by the rapid erosion that consumes this coast at nearly four and a half metres each year, while the sea works endlessly on the other. It is a walk through a landscape in constant motion — where history crumbles into the tide, and the wild edge of Suffolk holds firm against the wind and waves. No talking.
