However, it is not a product, but rather an aquaculture technology that generates "bioflocs," which provide certain beneficial services to the production process. Tilapia is an African fish of the genus Oreochromis, belonging to the family Cichlidae (Cichlids) and subfamily Cichlasomatinae. They are tropical fish characterized by their rapid growth and ability to colonize diverse aquatic environments. They are highly resistant to low oxygen levels (below 4 mg O2/L) and high concentrations of organic matter in the water (more than 30 ml of suspended solids). They are also able to survive high salinity and temperature variations.
