What inspired me to write this was my own four sons and watching how each of them is building their own version of their dreams. I started thinking back to my own youth in the 1970s and early 1980s. In my generation, we were often pulled away from what we felt called to do; there was so much pressure to succumb to traditional norms rather than build something non-traditional. But the world has changed. In my children’s generation, those traditional professions don't always have the same longevity, and there is so much more mobility. While I know these pressures still exist in some cultures, I have seen a beautiful change in the approach to building a life from the inside out. I wrote these words for all my children, but there is one son in particular these lyrics speak to—one who is aggressively pursuing big dreams. I want him, and all of them, to know that I am right behind them, supporting them 100%. The old norms only exist if we let them live in our heads. To my sons: Chase your dreams. Be brave. Plan well, work smart, and have the time of your life.
