The Javan Branjangan (Alaudidae, specifically the Javan Branjangan / Mirafra javanica) is an open-air bird found throughout Indonesia, including Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, and parts of the arid regions of Kalimantan. This small species, about 13–15 cm long, has earthy brown and gray plumage with a fine striped pattern that serves as camouflage. The Javan Branjangan is known for its distinctive behavior: it frequently perches low or takes short vertical flights to sing in the air, then returns to the ground, making it easily recognizable in the wild. Its population has declined in some areas due to hunting and poaching pressure, making it less common today than in previous decades.
