DES PROBLÈMES AVEC VOS ORCHIDÉES ? ASTUCES ET SOLUTIONS PRATIQUES POUR Y REMÉDIER (Phalaenopsis)

In this video, packed with insights and practical advice, NewsJardinTV's "Little Princess of Orchids," Colombe Lecoufle, presents the symptoms of the most common non-parasitic problems encountered with Phalaenopsis plants. She also offers her advice on how to resolve them. Colombe begins by showing a plant whose leaves are a little limp. This could indicate a need for watering when the roots are gray instead of green. In this case, you should submerge the pot for 20 to 30 minutes in room-temperature water. But it could also be the opposite problem. In this case, the roots are brown and are rotting. You must remove the flower stems (which require a lot of energy from the plant), remove the pot, clean all the roots, keeping only the green ones, and then repot (see the NewsJardinTV video:    • COMMENT BIEN REMPOTER UNE ORCHIDÉE (PHALAE...  ). Our professional orchid specialist then presents an orchid whose foliage is discolored and yellowing. This may be due to a lack of light, especially on the lower leaves, which are shaded by those above. The older leaves also eventually empty themselves to feed the younger ones. Yellowing upper leaves often indicate an aging plant, which then shows signs of maturity. Colombe also shows a leaf with holes and cuts due to an attack by slugs or snails, which are very fond of the fleshy leaf blades of Phalaenopsis. Our expert then presents a specimen that has lost its basal leaves and formed a sort of small trunk. She demonstrates that it is possible to rejuvenate the plant if it has formed sufficient roots at the base of the leaves. However, senescence is well underway when the young leaves become smaller than the previous ones. Another common symptom: spotted leaves. A browning accompanied by discoloration around the spot indicates burns due to the plant being exposed to too much direct sunlight. Be careful, a brown, soft, and spreading spot indicates rot due to overwatering. Colombe demonstrates how to detail a partially damaged leaf using a razor blade. She also indicates that the heart of the plant should never be wet when watering, as this part is very susceptible to rot. The practical lesson continues by showing that Phalaenopsis naturally develop an abundance of aerial roots. It's very important to keep them in good condition (they must be sprayed regularly) because they will replace the old ones when repotting. Colombe also shows how to clean orchid leaves when they are covered with limescale stains. This is important so that the plant can optimally photosynthesize. Another symptom mentioned in this video: small brown spots on the flowers, generally due to excessive humidity (do not wet the flowers when watering), which causes the growth of fungi (Botrytis). Colombe demonstrates that old flower stems should be cut as close as possible to their point of origin, which encourages the appearance of a new one at the leaf level just above. Finally, she has a leaf that was deformed during its growth, probably attacked by mites or thrips. In this case, there is nothing to do; the leaf will never return to normal. With this clear, practical, and concisely explained video, you'll have a wealth of information to help you grow your Phalaenopsis better and keep them in tip-top shape for a long time.
