"The Back Door to Art and Culture" is a YouTube channel where artist and writer Haruya Nakajima and visual artist and curator Keita Saito talk about various aspects of art and culture. He reflects on his relationship with the Japanese art scene after 3.11 and his experiences and practices at Venice. [Profile] Koki Tanaka Born in Tochigi Prefecture in 1975. Studied briefly at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1998, and graduated from the Department of Painting, Tokyo Zokei University in 2000. She completed her Master's degree in Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2005. In 2009, she studied in Los Angeles through the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Overseas Training Program for Emerging Artists. Through video, installations, and writing, she has visualized multiple contexts hidden in everyday life. In recent years, she has been creating works that focus on collaboration between people. At the Venice Biennale in 2013, she participated as the representative artist of the Japan Pavilion and held the exhibition "abstract speaking - sharing uncertainty and collective acts" (curated by Mika Kuraya, head of the curatorial department at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo). At the exhibition, she exhibited a video of five ceramic artists collaborating to create a single ceramic piece and received a special award. In 2015, she was selected as Deutsche Bank's Artist of the Year. Her major publications include "Asking Questions Part 1 (2009 - 2013)" (ART iT, 2013). In 2016, he held his first large-scale solo exhibition in Japan, "Koki Tanaka: The Possibility of Being Together, an Experiment" (Mito Art Museum Contemporary Art Gallery). This exhibition showcased Tanaka's activities since 2010, and featured the new work "Temporary Study: Workshop #4 The Possibility of Being Together, its Arrangement," created in collaboration with general participants. Haruya Nakajima Artist. Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1989. Graduated from Hosei University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Japanese Literature, and completed the Bijutsu Gakko (Art School). Since 2019, he has been an instructor at Bijutsu Gakko's "Back Door to Contemporary Art" and co-director of the project team "Nozarashi." Using modern literature, subculture, and urban studies as guides, he develops cross-disciplinary activities encompassing contemporary art, writing, and rap. He practices actual and critical expression, sprinkled with humor and irony, in mixed media.
