Cronoscalata del Santuario 2018 Cefalù Campionato Italiano Velocità Salita Autostoriche ACI
2018 Cefalù Sanctuary Hill Climb, Italian Historic Car Championship, ACI Sport Magazine Numerous Italian and Sicilian titles were awarded in the Cefalù-Gibilmanna Hill Climb, the tenth and final stage of the 2018 CIVSA. Completing the ideal podium behind Lombardo were fellow local driver Piero Vazzana (Porsche 911 Sc) and Salvatore Caristi (Fiat 128) from Messina. Marelli from Milan was unlucky, but still claimed the Italian title in Group 4. Gallusi from Bologna (Porsche) won Group 3, while Pezzullo from Cosenza and Fiume from Lombardy secured Italian titles in their respective classes. Cefalù (PA) – The 2018 Sanctuary Hill Climb, the tenth and final stage of the Italian Historic Car Championship by AciSport, has finally delivered its verdict. In the magnificent setting of Cefalù, the "Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea" and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before a jubilant crowd packed into Race 1 on the 7.950 km course, numerous Italian and Sicilian titles found their new owner, as predicted on the eve of the race. Rain, however, disrupted the drivers' plans in Race 2, which was declared "wet" by event director Lucio Bonasera and his assistant Massimo Minasi in the early stages of the Modern Cars section. The ideal overall victory at the culmination of a weekend of pure motorsport was, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, but deservedly, Cefalù rally driver Angelo Lombardo, extremely fast and focused at the wheel of the Porsche 911 Sc prepared by Mimmo Guagliardo. The Island Motorsport driver certainly took advantage of the lack of luck experienced by Milanese Walter Marelli in Sicily. He led after the first timed heat, but was then forced to retire in Race 2 due to a contact that took his Bologna Squadra Corse Osella PA 9/90 BMW out of contention in the rain. Marelli nevertheless took victory in the Italian Championship Group 4 and in the JR BC2000 class. Angelo Lombardo, who finished with a total time of 11:12.53, winning Group 3 here in Cefalù, finished ahead of local rally hero Piero Vazzana, president of the "I Normanni" Committee, which promotes the Sanctuary Hill Climb in collaboration with the Automobile Club Palermo and the Municipality of Cefalù. The Real Cefalù representative, driving the Porsche 911 Sc of SPM Palermo, also finished in 11:23.37, ahead of the ever-running Salvatore Caristi from Messina, third overall in the Fiat 128 Giannini entered by Phoenix, in 11:44.82. "Winning in front of my home crowd," commented Angelo Lombardo, "is immensely satisfying for me, coming from rallying and modern cars. I'm learning quickly to enter the world of classic cars too, with the passion passed down to me by my father Mauro. A race, the Sanctuary Hill Climb, that deserves a much larger stage, is difficult to tackle for many reasons. At the culmination of a difficult racing weekend, on a completely new course, Giuseppe Gallusi from Reggio Emilia still managed to "grab" the Italian title in Group 3, crushing, at the wheel of the Porsche 911 Sc, the Sicilian ambitions of Andrea Fiume from Milan, forced on the defensive in the cockpit of the Osella PA 8/9 BMW of Racing Club 19, not entirely at ease on a highly technical and rain-soaked course in Race 2. Gallusi also brought home the Italian title in the H2/I GTS+2500 class, while Fiume had to "settle" for the Italian title in the IR BC2000 class. Also in Group 3, Aldo Pezzullo from Cosenza confirmed his victory in the Italian championship in the IR class in Sicily. BC1300, at the wheel of the beautiful and rare Lola Dallara T590 of Bologna Squadra Corse. Despite missing the Santuario Hill Climb, fellow Emilian Giuliano Palmieri managed to take home the Italian championship title in Group 2 with his Porsche 911 RSR, along with the Italian championship crown in the GTS+2500 class. At the Santuario Hill Climb, the victory in Group 2 deservedly went to Cefalù native Mauro Lombardo (father of winner Angelo), who placed his Porsche 911 Rs operated by Island Motorsport (but prepared by Mimmo Guagliardo) in fourth place in the hypothetical overall Historic Cars standings, ahead of local driver Giovanni Serio, in the Alfa Romeo Giulia GtAM 1750 entered by Scuderia del Portello.
