What Is In This Video No Longer Exists. The Virginia Creeper Trail
I shot this video in the spring of 2024. In September of that year the remnants of Hurricane Helene brought devastating flooding to portions of southwest Virginia, and to other states. That flooding wiped away entire sections of The Virginia Creeper Trail. As of October 2025, 18 miles of the 34-mile mile Creeper Trail, those from Damascus to Whitetop, are closed. To date, 18 trestles have been lost, being destroyed or washed away. In extended sections the trail itself no longer exists, reclaimed by the rushing, flooded creeks. Trailheads, access points, amenities and signage have been destroyed as well. But, the section from Damascus to Abingdon is open. The hope is that work crews and fundraising will one day bring this amazing experience back to life. #flood #mountains #virginia #travelvlog @VisitDamascusVirginia
