Amama Mbabazi arrested in Jinja
Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has been arrested in Njeru town on the Kampala- Jinja highway as he headed to Mbale to hold his first consultative meeting. The former secretary general of the NRM, who announced in mid-June, that he would bid for the Presidency against his former ally President Yoweri Museveni had been traveling with his daughter and a number of political assistants before he was stopped. The operation was headed by the Director of Police Operations Andrew Felix Kaweesi who said it was a preventive arrest. Meanwhile, a number of people gathered at the scene, protesting Mbabazi’s arrest.
