NHD Regionals 3rd Place I Senior Group Documentary I Kinescope of Kinship
Title: Kinescope of Kinship: How "Finding Dispersed Families" Revolutionized Humanitarian Broadcasting Created By: Bryan Lee, Sally Lee, Sophie Lee (Daegu, KO, Daegu International School) In 1983, KBS planned a 45-minute special to help Korean families separated by war find one another. It ended up running for 138 days straight, becoming the longest live broadcast in history. Over 100,000 people applied to appear, and more than 10,000 families were ultimately reunited on camera, decades after the Korean War tore them apart. This documentary looks at how one broadcast turned into a national outpouring of grief and hope, and changed the way media could bring people back together.
