Finding Alternatives to Palm Oil | Reforesting Indonesia
Ecosia is the search engine that plants trees: https://ecosia.co/info Palm oil is in every second product you consume. It’s in our food, cosmetics and even our clothes. Yet palm oil is a massive driver of deforestation. 25% of Indonesia’s rainforests have been cleared to make space for harmful palm oil monocultures, at the expense of local populations and wildlife. But boycotting palm oil is not a solution either. About 4 million people in rural Indonesia directly depend on it, and an estimated 17 million additional people earn their income from this industry. The solution to palm oil is complex and needs a bigger structural change involving consumers, big corporations, as well as national and transnational institutions. One easy way to fight palm oil is through Ecosia. Ecosia is reforesting former palm oil plantations in Sumatra with the money generated from your internet searches. Together with Nayla at the Orangutan Information Centre and our partners at Sumatran Orangutan Society, Ecosia is helping create alternative income solutions to palm oil. We need your help to reforest Indonesia and protect its remaining patches of rainforest, which are home to the endangered Sumatran and Bornean orangutan. Every month we invest at least 80% of our surplus in tree planting projects all over the world. ____ Produced by Fátima González-Torres (IG: @fatilugonzalevic) and Sina Samavati (IG: @sinasamavati) Editing & post-production by Sina Samavati Cinematography by Shane Thomas McMillan ____ Make Ecosia your default search engine to plant trees while you search the web: https://ecosia.co/install Ecosia is available for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and many more.
