It is amazing to watch the transformation, as well as the expert techniques she uses. If you like our videos please 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹. First Maeve chooses a piece of persimmon wood and shows us it's possible flaws and where to cut the section for a 12" utility spoon. She shows us how to avoid possible issues due to the grain, where small branches grew, weevils and rings from uneven growth. She talks about safety in using her ax and the different cuts she uses to craft the spoon. She splits the log lengthwise and then draws the spoon on hte cut plane. Then we watch as she uses all of these cuts (side cuts, slap cuts, diagonal slap cuts). After carving the rough shape of the spoon with the ax she uses a surform tool to even it out. Then she forms the bowl of the spoon with a chisel. Lastly she uses the rasp to smooth the spoon. She will then let it dry before finishing the surfaces to be ready for sale. #diyspoon #woodcarving #spooncarving #woodwork #handcarving
