ONE DAY BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK ITINERARY | RV CAMPING | OUR FIRST NATIONAL PARK!

It’s true what they say! There is no way to see it all in a day. Big Bend National Park in West Texas is like stepping into another world. https://www.nps.gov/bibe/index.htm We were extremely excited to kick off the new year and ‘Project Good Start’ as we visited our first National Park as full-time RVers. We just so happen to pick Big Bend National Park, which is the least visited NP due to its remote location. Which meant we had about a 8.5 hour drive (325 miles) from Austin. We stayed about 75 miles away from the park at Marathon Motel & RV Park. We arrived at night and had no idea the beautiful scenery we would be waking up to the next morning. http://www.marathonmotel.com 4:57 Once we arrived at Big Bend we had decisions to make. With only one day to explore this vast landscape we had to choose our own adventure. We started at the Fossil Discovery Exhibit and go hang with T-Rex and his friends. 8:24 Next up, we get some hiking done on the Upper Burro Mesa Pour-off Trail (4 miles) The terrain was insane changing from rolling hills with cactus, to jagged cliffs and drop-offs. If you follow along with the channel regularly, you know we tend to get a little turned around when it comes to trails. In this case, we thought we were on a completely different trail. Our advice, bring a trail map. Lol. 15:20 Even if you’re not up for a challenging hike on one of the many trails Big Bend has to offer, taking a drive through the entire park is a must! It’s almost as if you are visiting another planet. Check out some of the stunning landscape on the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive. 30 miles of paved road that shows off the park’s beauty. 16:48 The most popular area to visit in the park is the Chisos Mountains. Here you can find hiking trails such as the Lost Mine Trail or the Window View Trail. We chose to check out the Window View for sunset, and WOW! It did not disappoint! Visiting a landscape like this could very well change your view of how the world works. We couldn’t be happier that we kicked off ‘Project Good Start’ at Big Bend National Park.
