Pensare come Joe Pass

In this episode of Practice Room, we try to get inside Joe Pass's head... but in the right way. Joe Pass isn't "the guy who plays lots of chords"... he's a bebop improviser who uses harmony as part of the phrase. The risk, when studying him, is turning him into a circus of voicings and interlocking patterns. Here, however, we do the opposite: we seek the musical logic that makes everything believable. In this episode, we'll see: why Joe Pass doesn't think "chord by chord," but rather through melodic flow how to make harmony and form heard with just a few perfect notes (guide tones, triads, target notes) how to insert chords and basses only when needed, without stuffing practical exercises to practice timing, swing, melody, and accompaniment in the same gesture Goal: Stop "playing stuff" and start narrating a standard like Joe would... with clarity, direction, and real swing. Write in the comments which standard you'd like to use as a testing ground and which one interests you most: solo guitar, trio, accompaniment, or pure bebop improvisation. 🔔 Subscribe to the channel for more jazz guitar content and leave a comment with your questions or feedback!
