Understand the basic operating principle of a transformer, assembled from the turns and the interconnection between two cores. Each winding has a different number of turns, or turns of enameled copper wire. The ratio between input and output voltage is proportional to the turns ratio. The primary and secondary windings are clearly different in this video, and the measurement taken with a multimeter clearly demonstrates the occurrence of voltage conversion losses. The subject of transformers is much more extensive than it appears, and this video provides a visual introduction to the subject. Electric transformers are used in a wide variety of situations, ranging from very small and lightweight to gigantic transformers used in power plants and substations. Transformers have applications ranging from microwaves to power electronics. The one in this video can be considered a homemade transformer, far from an ideal (theoretical) transformer. We did not calculate the current because we measured it with the circuit open and without any load. In a future video, we'll measure input and output current, better calculating the transferred power. There are also signal transformers, which will be covered in other videos in the future.
