#Live Lawmakers demand an official investigation into Customs after 5 allegations of âcorruptionâ and âsmugglingâ Five allegations of âcorruptionâ and âbriberyâ have been filed against Customs in less than a week; these incidents are tarnishing the image of the president of the National Customs Service, Alberto Soto. The former Customs agent from Arica, who reported irregularities and is now facing legal proceedings, stated in recent hours that he is being persecuted and that they are trying to arrest him. These cases have drawn the attention of lawmakers in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly. Senator Cesar Mentasti of the Unidad party indicated that what is most concerning is the silence of authorities regarding these allegations. âI havenât heard the president of Customs or the general manager deny anything,â he said. He stated that Customs must appear before the Senate and provide information regarding this case. âThe silence from Customs, from the other side, is worrying,â he stated. Furthermore, another complaint reveals that convicted criminals Medina and GĂłmez are serving as heads of Customs in PotosĂ, and that it was the president of Customs, Alberto Soto, who hired them. In response, the head of the Libre party's congressional bloc, Rafael LĂłpez, asserted that this is happening because interim appointments continue. That is why he is requesting that Vice President Edmand Lara put an end to interim appointments by convening a session to pre-select the authorities. âInterim appointments continue at the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB), Customs, YPFB (Bolivian state-owned oil company), the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH), and others,â he said. He points out that these interim appointments are harmful to the country because the appointments are based on the interests of those making the appointments; âthey will no longer be chosen arbitrarily,â he stated. LĂłpez points out that a restructuring of public institutions such as the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB), Customs, YPFB (Bolivian state-owned oil company), the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH), and others is necessary to eliminate irregularities. Finally, he stated that the Customs case must be investigated, each case separately; âThe Prosecutor's Office should act ex officio and investigate Customs,â he indicated. Meanwhile, as legislators, the congressman anticipates the formation of a commission to investigate Customs: âWhoever is implicated, we will investigate Customs⊠this cannot end here; they must investigate thoroughly.â #DTV #National #GigavisionNetwork #Bolivia #LaPaz #DTV #National #Beni #Live #Oruro #Latest #F10News #Potosi #Pando #Cochabamba #BoliviaNews #Bolivia #GigavisionNetwork #GigavisionNetwork #Bolivia #GigavisionNetwork #BoliviaNews #SantaCruz #LaPaz #Beni #Oruro #Sucre #Tarija #F10News #Potosi #Pando #Cochabamba
