[What is "Michi-no-Eki"?] we stop at a "Michi-no-Eki" (道の駅). these are unique japanese roadside stations that are much more than just a rest stop. they are vibrant local hubs where you can find: fresh produce: seasonal fruits and vegetables picked straight from local farms. regional specialties: unique snacks, crafts, and souvenirs. local soul food: freshly prepared meals and food trucks. [A Special Midnight Snack] as the sun set and our 3-year-old son fell fast asleep, we found a traditional japanese ramen food truck (yatai) by the sea. a bowl of classic shoyu ramen was only 600 JPY (approx. $4.00). eating warm noodles in the cold island air was a nostalgic moment we’ll never forget.
