Cape Point Catch Clean Cook – Spearfishing South Africa | Butterfish, Janbruin & Hottentot Adventure We headed out to Cape Point for a Catch, Clean & Cook adventure like no other. Crystal-clear water, calm seas, and perfect diving conditions set the scene for an incredible day in the deep with CapeTideAdventures and Aiden Ravel. From the moment we dropped in, the ocean was alive — kelp forests swaying in the current, schools of fish flashing through beams of sunlight, and that classic Cape Point magic that keeps us coming back. We managed to land an amazing variety of fish including butterfish, janbruin, and hottentot (Cape bream) — each one caught ethically and with respect for the ocean. Cape Point’s waters are wild and unpredictable, but when it all comes together like this, it’s unbeatable. After a few solid dives and some unforgettable moments underwater, we brought our catch back to shore and started the clean and cook process right on the beach. Knives out, saltwater rinse, fresh fillets ready for the braai. There’s nothing more satisfying than grilling your own catch over coals, with the ocean you pulled it from just meters away. We cooked everything simple — just butter, garlic, coarse salt, and lemon over open coals. The butterfish came out golden and crisp, janbruin rich and meaty, and hottentot soft and flaky. Add a sunset over Cape Point and a cold drink, and it’s the perfect end to the day.
