✈️ Join us for an immersive walk through Wuhan Tianhe International Airport (WUH) — the main air gateway to Central China and one of the country's most strategically positioned hubs. 【武汉天河机场】 Tucked in Wuhan's Huangpi District, about 26 km (16 mi) north of the city, Tianhe Airport has welcomed travelers since it opened on April 15, 1995, taking over from the older Wangjiadun and Nanhu airports. Today it's the busiest airport in Central China, sitting almost exactly at the geographic center of the country's air route network — and in 2016 alone it handled over 20.7 million passengers, ranking it the 14th busiest airport nationwide. Tianhe is a major hub for China Southern Airlines, and a focus city for both Air China and China Eastern Airlines, with international routes stretching to New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Rome, Dubai, Istanbul, Sydney, Bangkok, Bali, Moscow, Seoul, and beyond. Fun fact: the name Tianhe (天河) translates to "Sky River" — one of the traditional Chinese names for the Milky Way. ✨ And if you're planning a layover here: since 2019, transit passengers from 53 countries (including the EU, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and the US) can enter China visa-free for up to 144 hours when connecting to a third country.
