Bahnverkehr am Brackeler Feld mit Güterzügen, ICE 1&2, Br 146.3 + Dostos, Br 462, ICs und Eurobahn

The Brackeler Feld is located in the north of Dortmund's Brackel district, on the Dortmund - Hamm (Westf) railway line. On April 27, 1925, Dortmund's first civil airport was put into operation on Brackeler Feld, and integrated into the Copenhagen - Hamburg - Bremen - Dortmund - Frankfurt (Main) - Stuttgart - Zurich route. From April 1934 the 1st group of Jagdgeschwader 134, the new Luftwaffe under construction, was stationed here. Until August 1939 there was a mixed operation with civil aircraft and those of the Luftwaffe. Then civil flight operations were stopped and several hangars and buildings for the Richthofen barracks were built on the site. On March 28, 1945 the air force aircraft left the air base, on May 12 it was occupied by the US armed forces and later handed over to the Royal Air Force. From 1953 the area was used again by sports pilots. Commercial aviation, however, never returned to Brackel. With the stationing of a British missile unit on the site, flight operations were finally ceased and today's airport in Wickede was built. The missile unit and the Dortmund special ammunition depot existed here until 1995. Today there is an industrial area, a golf course, the Borussia Dortmund training camp, a residential area and the Buschei nature reserve on the site. The only remnants of the military past are the remains of bunkers in the nature reserve and the barbed wire fence of the golf course, which does not look as if it was replaced after the British left.
