San Francisco built roughly 48,000 Victorian and Edwardian homes between 1849 and 1915 — and only a fraction survive today. Over the past few years, we've had the chance to photograph and film dozens of them. This is a tour of some of our favorites. From flat-front Italianates to turreted Queen Annes, some of these homes hold tight to their original woodwork, plaster medallions, and period details. Others have been reimagined for modern living behind their historic facades — chef's kitchens and open floor plans tucked inside 19th-century bones.
