This "Chungmugong Yusa" (忠武公遺事) vividly captures Yi Sun-sin's true nature, including his anguish and state of mind during the war. Manuscript Nanjung Ilgi: Meet the Man, Yi Sun-sin! The Complete Works of Yi Chungmugong (李忠武公全書) are so well-known to us. However, it is difficult to understand Yi Sun-sin solely through the records in the Complete Works of Yi Chungmugong. Compiled during the reign of King Jeongjo, the Complete Works of Yi Chungmugong excised personal details in favor of highlighting Yi Sun-sin's heroic side. However, the handwritten drafts reveal the ordinary human being of Yi Sun-sin. At times, he was fearful, hated others, and cared for his family. Through his handwritten diary, we can glimpse the living breath of Yi Sun-sin. Yi Sun-sin. A Look into His Sensibility! Most media portray Yi Sun-sin as a tough war hero. However, in reality, Yi Sun-sin possessed a delicate personality. He was a husband who worried about his wife's illness, a father who cared about his son's well-being, and a son who always missed his mother. He said his wife was seriously ill.- [From his diary, August 27, 1868] Having spent two Lunar New Years away from his mother in the south, I cannot overcome the deep regret I feel.- [From his diary, January 1, 1868] This meticulous nature was even more evident in his dealings with his subordinates. During each war, he meticulously recorded the names and affiliations of the wounded and dead, and even cared for the livelihoods of their families. The Imjin War. Yi Sun-sin had a premonition! The year of Imjin was marked by the threat of war. However, the government was discussing the abolition of the navy. Yi Sun-sin immediately submitted a report expressing his opposition. He also patrolled the ports under his command, sternly disciplining subordinates who were neglecting their duties, and prepared for war. We will examine a new side of Yi Sun-sin that emerges from this process. Was Yi Sun-sin afraid of war? The Imjin War broke out on April 13th. Yi Sun-sin heard news of the war two days later, on April 15th. The Japanese forces that landed in Busan advanced northward at breakneck speed, and the Joseon army suffered repeated defeats.
