Bowie vs Largo 5 Feb 93

@ Bowie PRINCE GEORGE'S BOYS MILLER'S 33 HELP LARGO TOP BOWIE February 6, 1993 More than 33 years ago By Gary Karton - Washington Post Much of the talk in Prince George's County boys basketball this season has been about the surprising play of No. 8 Bowie, which has been near the top of the 4A league after years of mediocrity. But last night before a packed gymnasium at Bowie, No. 18 Largo demonstrated that it remains one of the county's top programs, defeating the Bulldogs, 75-65, as senior point guard Robert Miller scored 33 points and had seven assists. The victory was the ninth straight for Largo (12-3 overall, 11-2 in the league) and moved it into a share of the league lead with Bowie. The Bulldogs (14-2, 11-2) lost for the second time in their last six games. Largo fell out of The Washington Post's top 20 for the first time in two years after losing its opener to Northwestern in overtime, 76-70. After another loss in the final of a holiday tournament, Coach Lou Wilson decided to make Miller the full-time point guard. The Lions have not lost since. "Hopefully this {victory} will bring us some respect, not only in the county but around the whole area," said Wilson, whose team made it back to the top 20 this week. "Miller really came through tonight. He brings a lot to the table. He's aggressive, he steals the ball, he passes the ball, he can score and penetrate. He does so many things for us we're just glad we have him." Along with his 33 points, Miller also had 7 assists, 7 steals and 6 rebounds. When Miller wasn't driving for layups or passing to 6-foot-4, 215-pound Arnett Young (14 points, 18 rebounds), he was hitting clutch free throws down the stretch. He made 11 of 14 in the fourth quarter to preserve a game that was closer than the final score indicated, in part because of the play of Bowie's Damian Owens, who scored 18 second-half points, and Aaron Queen (21 points).
