Training Livestock Guardian Dogs for Pasture-Raised Chickens

Raising chickens on pasture comes with one big challenge - predators. That’s where our livestock guardian dogs (LGDs) come in. In this video, we share how we train our dogs from puppies to protect chickens, based on years of experience raising various LGD breeds on our regenerative farm. We’ve learned through trial and error what works (and what doesn’t) when it comes to training livestock guardian dogs for poultry. You’ll see the methods we use to introduce LGDs to chickens, build trust between them, and ensure they’re effective protectors in a pasture-based system. We’re not professional dog trainers, but these tips have helped us keep our flock safe from hawks, foxes, and other predators.
