Loop quantum gravity is a promising candidate for unifying fundamental theories into a single theory of quantum gravity. Starting with the ADM formalism, the Wheeler-DeWitt equation, and spinors as Ashtekar variables, Josef M. Gaßner explains in the series "From Aristotle to String Theory" how spacetime can be constructed from the smallest units—so-called loops. Both ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) and the GZK cutoff (Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin) allow for verification of the theory.
