Red de teleféricos en Lima: ATU revela cómo funcionará el sistema

The Urban Transport Authority (ATU) provided details about the ambitious project that promises to contribute to reducing traffic congestion and improving the organization of the transport system in Metropolitan Lima. This is the Metropolitan Cable Car Network, a plan that includes eight lines connecting 11 districts of Lima and Callao, with the main beneficiaries being residents of the higher areas of the capital. Furthermore, these lines will connect with other mass transit systems operated by the Municipality of Lima, such as Line 1 of the Lima Metro, with the aim of integrating and optimizing urban mobility. TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT These eight lines will be distributed across districts such as San Juan de Lurigancho, San Martín de Porres, Callao, Villa María del Triunfo, as well as in the higher areas of the hills of El Agustino and La Victoria. Likewise, the estimated investment for this project is around US$950 million and is projected to be implemented over a period of 20 years. However, according to ATU's short-term planning, the first cable car could be operational within five to six years. PROJECT UNDERWAY On the other hand, the highest priority project is the line that will connect the Los Jardines station in San Juan de Lurigancho with San Martín de Porres, with a connection point at a station near the Lima Metropolitano system. “It is a very important project (...) whereas this one, being aerial, crosses all the hills and will take 18 minutes, saving 40 minutes of travel time,” stated Gustavo Díaz Paz, an ATU employee.
