"The Latzfons Cross lies within the Villanderer Alm, a vast alpine pasture stretching from the Rittner Horn to the Königsanger high above Brixen. A short summer is now beginning here; the cattle and their herders have returned, and the shepherd's hut is once again inhabited. Sepp Baldauf, who tends the cattle of the Latzfons farmers up here, is allowed to keep six goats for his sustenance. They provide him not only with milk but also with a daily indication of the weather. The Villanderer Alm is one of the largest high moorland areas in the Alps.
