They exploited this opportunity to carry out their actions to avoid detection. Their modus operandi involved random, time-sensitive transactions. At that time, they repeatedly top up virtual accounts with credit, reaching billions of rupiah. For example, if someone tops up their OVO account with 500,000 rupiah, their account doesn't disappear; instead, they lose money from the bank. "They want to buy credit, keep topping up, and then get credit... that's why it reaches 22 billion rupiah," said Senior Commissioner Yusri Yunus to the media on March 6, 2020. Meanwhile, to break into the victim's credit card, the perpetrators conduct online transactions using the victim's credit card. Then, after making the purchase, they call the victim and ask for the OTP code. "To obtain the OTP code, by pretending to be a bank employee, to cancel an online purchase not made by the victim," Metro Jaya Police Chief Nana Sudjana told reporters. Police are still investigating this case. This despicable act has caused the bank 22 billion rupiah in losses.
