BIG NEWS FOR NZ OSCE CANDIDATES The BLS station has officially changed. Infant BLS is now added to the New Zealand OSCE. If you're a medical student, nurse, paramedic, or emergency responder, you must learn the Infant-specific DRSABCD protocol – it's different from adult BLS. This video walks you through the updated New Zealand OSCE Infant BLS station step by step, using the ANZCOR DRSABCD framework and the latest 2025/2026 guidelines. INFANT BLS – DRSABCD (New Zealand OSCE Format) Follow exactly as demonstrated: D – DANGER – Check scene safety. R – RESPONSE – Gently stimulate. Tap foot, call name. S – SEND FOR HELP – If alone, do 2 minutes of CPR first (due to hypoxic arrest) then call 111. A – AIRWAY – Neutral position. Head tilt + chin lift (no over-extension). B – BREATHING – Look, listen, feel for 10 seconds. Not breathing normally? → Give 5 initial rescue breaths. Seal mouth over infant's nose & mouth. Each breath = 1 sec, chest rises. C – CPR (Compressions) Location: Lower sternum (below nipple line). Technique: 2 fingers (single rescuer) or 2 thumb-encircling (2 rescuers). Depth: ~4 cm (1/3 AP diameter). Rate: 100–120/min. Ratio: 15:2 (15 compressions : 2 breaths). D – DEFIBRILLATION – Attach AED with paediatric pads as soon as available.
