When Spain appointed Luis de la Fuente, they had just been knocked out of the 2022 World Cup by Morocco in the Round of Sixteen, they hadn't won anything since their 2008-12 golden generation, and most Spain fans didn't want de la Fuente to get the job. Eighteen months on, Spain have just deservedly won UEFA Euro 2024, as by far the best team at the tournament.
