On descend tous et toutes de Adam et Ève en Afrique…mais plus proche de nous en Amérique, c’est à Cap Tourmente sur la côte de Beaupré, face à la pointe est de L’Île-d’Orléans, que mes ancêtres, Julien Fortin et Geneviève Gamache, ont fait bâtir maison vers 1650. On peut les retracer depuis L’Auberge du Cheval Blanc dans le Perche (France) où on faisait la promotion d’une colonisation en Nouvelle-France. Leur maison ici, un vieux bâtiment de pierre, se tient toujours debout et leur descendance se compte par millier, disséminée à travers le continent. Une petite toune pour vous, Julien et Geneviève. We all descend from Adam and Eve in Africa... but closer to home, here in the Americas, it was at Cap Tourmente on the Côte de Beaupré—facing the eastern tip of Île d’Orléans—that my ancestors, Julien Fortin and Geneviève Gamache, built themselves a home circa 1650. Their story can be traced back to the Auberge du Cheval Blanc in the Perche region of France, where settlement in "la Nouvelle-France" was being promoted. Their old stone house here in Québec is still standing, and their descendants number in the thousands, scattered across the continent. A little tune for you, Julien and Geneviève.
