Mercedes-Benz Sprinter - How to remove/install (cardan) propeller shaft intermediate bearing | W906

During a journey whistling noise can be heard. Suspicion: The intermediate bearing on the cardan shaft is the cause. The cardan shaft is secured at four points: On the transmission, on the safety clip, on the intermediate bearing and on the rear axle. Unscrew safety clip. Note: Always replace all bolt when installing. Depending on the motorization different bolt heads are installed. Torques are available in the document shown. Torque for safety clip: 100 Nm Remove marked bolts from transmission. Tighten bolts when reinstalling at first with 15 Nm, then with a 70° tightening angle. Continue with the intermediate bearing. Torque for both bolts: 100 Nm. Ask colleagues to help before the final bolt is unfastened. Remove 4 bolts from rear axle. Tighten bolts when reinstalling at first with 15 Nm, then with a 70° tightening angle. Remove drive shaft. Remove clamps from rubber boot. Cut boot using a knife. Pull drive shaft apart. Pick up special "puller" tool. The drift shown is required. Gradually unscrew intermediate bearing from the drive shaft. Picture shows the parts kit. New: Protective caps that keep dirt out of the intermediate bearing. The bearing itself. The new rubber boots with clamps. Assemble intermediate bearing, note correct installation position. Fasten drive shaft in a vise. With the aid of the special "Drift" tool press the shield onto the drive shaft. Mount intermediate bearing using the drift. Check for correct seating of the intermediate bearing. Use another special tool to drive the second protective cap onto the bearing. Check whether the cap is correctly positioned. Coat profile of drive shaft with grease. Mount boot. Push drive shaft apart. Note markings. Fasten boot clamps.
