The variation 1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.Nf3 f5!? (or 3...g6) can produce some positions that bear a strategic resemblance to the King's Indian: White pawn storms the queenside and attempts to capitalize on his slight lead in development, whereas Black pins his hopes on a kingside attack. My opponent's setup with e2-e3 and Bf1-e2 (rather than g2-g3 and Bf1-g2) was unfamiliar to me, but perhaps he should have used more time roundabout 15.f3 exf3 16.Bxf3.
