◼︎ In 612, Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty dispatched 1.13 million troops to conquer Goguryeo, launching the largest war in East Asia. However, Goguryeo demonstrated an ironclad defense, built with ingenious fortification techniques and equipped with crossbows, powerful weapons comparable to modern special steel. The decisive blow was the strategy of General Eulji Mundeok. Using a meticulous psychological warfare strategy of false surrender and scorched earth tactics, he exhausted the Sui contingent of 300,000 troops, then lured them to Salsu and destroyed them.
