Letieres Leite & Orkestra Rumpilez in Philadelphia August 2015. On Friday, July 31, 2015, Philadelphia experienced for the first time, the powerful, musical magic of Orkestra Rumpilezz, led by the remarkable, saxophonist, composer, conduct and educator, Letieres Leite. On their very first U.S. tour, this 20 plus member, Brazilian big band, by way of the state of Bahia and the city of Salvador, joined by Afro-Cuban Jazz pianist Arturo O’Farrill and trumpeter and musical adventurer, Steven Bernstein shared an unforgettable evening with over 600 ecstatic Philadelphians. The Orkestra Rumpilezz concert tour, sponsored by Southern Exposure, took them to Lincoln Center in New York, The Rhythm Foundation in Miami Beach, Florida, San Francisco Jazz Organization in San Francisco and the San Jose Jazz Society in San Jose, California. However, it was here in Philadelphia at the Temple University Performing Arts Center [TPAC] that they recorded their next album. This event was made possible through the joyous collaboration of a number of Philadelphia organizations and individuals.
