Launched in 2003 on BenTV, the first Black-owned satellite channel in the UK, INTRO didn’t just play music—it brought live interviews with Nigerian and African artists and showcased the vibrant culture of the Diaspora. Widely credited as the platform that sparked the globalisation of what is now known as Afrobeats, INTRO evolved from a groundbreaking TV series to concerts and specials spanning Nigeria, the UK, and the USA. “INTRO Live with DJ Abass” aired from 2003 to 2005 on BenTV (SkyTV) and continued from 2005 to 2007 on OBE TV, another African-owned station in the UK.
