Cayuga Duck Overview and Release into their Pen
Cayuga Ducks are an American duck breed believed to not have originated from the Mallard duck, but it's a very disputed theory. Cayugas are also a "True" black duck in that the coloration is actually black, and not a dark shade of brown. Cayugas originate from Orange County, New York, but are named after the indigenous people of Cayuga County, New York. Early in it's history, it was used as a meat bird, as they're known to reach 7-8lbs, but was later displaced by the Pekin duck for meat production.
