Why Social Media is killing your faith... (Supplement vs. Substitute)

#HeyChat #CalebThomas #SocialMedia #TheChurch In this video, Pastor Caleb wraps up the "Hey Chat" series by addressing a question weighing on many students: "Is social media hurting my relationship with Jesus?". While social media is a "beautiful thing" that can help you realize you aren't alone in your faith, there is a dangerous line between using it as a supplement or a substitute. Drawing on his background in bodybuilding, Pastor Caleb explains that while supplements like protein and creatine are helpful, they were never meant to replace "real food" like steak and chicken. Similarly, online content should never replace the three essentials of a healthy faith: A Local Church, Not Just a Feed: You need a physical presence where people can notice when you’re missing, ask how your mental health is doing, and pray for you by name. Social media gives you access to great worship, but it cannot "know your struggle while you're in the middle of it". A Pastor, Not Just a Preacher: There is a major difference between a preacher you follow and a pastor who knows your name. While influencers can inform you, a pastor is a gift from God meant to shepherd you, celebrate your "high lights," and "keep it a buck" with you when you’re going sideways. Community, Not Just Content: Salvation is communal, not just personal. When you say "yes" to Jesus, you are placed into the "Body of Christ". Pastor Caleb warns that "outsourcing your whole spiritual life on a screen" is like a hand cut off from a body—it might look like a hand, but it has no life because it’s disconnected. Ultimately, if you are choosing to go through life alone, you are rejecting the gift of the local church. As Pastor Caleb says, you can't follow Jesus and reject His "bride" (the church)—"that math ain't mathing". Key Timestamps: The Big Question: Is social media a supplement or a substitute?. The Bodybuilding Analogy: Why digital faith is like "knockoff" Christianity. Followers vs. Sheep: Why you need someone who knows your name. The Hand Analogy: The danger of "solo" Christianity. A Final Challenge: Elevating your perspective on the local church. ------------------------------------------------ Follow The Blend so you don't miss on what's next!
