Today we are making a really special designer version of this viral cut out blazer trend from tiktok and instagram. I took a really wide shouldered blazer but you can use any blazer you have around. Crop it to the desired length, taking into account that you are still gonna add a waistband if you do it like me. I really liked my waistband with the elongated ends to knot or just dangle. To make this you can sew strips of fabric together. Make sure to always use iron on interfacing on waistbands and especially when you are gonna make eyelets through it! So I sewed the waistband all around the hemline of the jacket. Than I closed the loose tubes seperately and turned it around with a long stick. Than I ironed the waistband in, folding it in the middle and ironing in the seam allowance as well so that I can easily sew the inside. I decided to attach the waistband on the inside with some hand stitching because I find this much easier than going over it with the machine, especially in these kind of corduroy fabrics. Always take into account the direction of the pile / the nap of the fabric if you use corduroy fabrics! otherwise the different parts have different color nuances. To make the eyelets through the waistband you can use any of the mentioned tools. I will add some links, I only have tried the press I bought myself. You have to be careful with making the holes: they have to be a bit smaller than the inner circumference of the eyelet/grommet, so that the eyelet is very tight in the fabric, even before closing the eyelet. Than you have to push the eyelet through, the pretty side on the outside ofcourse and the other side inside. You can now use the press to secure the eyelet. The 'male' side or pretty side has to go in the bottom in my case, but this you have to check with your own tool because it might be different for yours. I would recommend to practice a little bit on a rest piece of fabric to get the hang of it. It can be a little tricky, especially with cheaper tools or eyelets. I closed all the eyelets and than I made a draw string of the corduroy fabric. It was not really fraying once I cut it, so I just sewed the wrong side on the wrong side, got some of the fraying off and it looked very decent without much hassle. I also made some eyelets and rings in the collar for the finishing touch. Let me know how it went?
