When Lord Krishna's close friend, Uddhava, arrived in Vrindavan from Mathura with Lord Krishna's message, he preached knowledge and yoga to the gopis, yearning for separation. Uddhava said, "Don't see Lord Krishna only as your beloved; he is the Supreme Being himself. Meditate on him, practice yoga, and your sorrow and separation will be alleviated." But the simple-hearted gopis of Braj simply cannot grasp these words of wisdom. They say, "What do we know about yoga? Our mind, soul, breath—everything is settled in Shyamsundar." Then the gopis begin to recall the sweet memories of the banks of the Yamuna, when they performed the Maharas with Lord Krishna on the night of Sharad Purnima. The same Raas, the same melodious flute, the same dance, songs, water sports, and loving pastimes... In their emotional state, the gopis even call Lord Krishna cruel, deceitful, and harsh. She recalls the exploits of Krishna's various incarnations— • The killing of Putana • The killing of Tataka • The mutilation of Shurpanakha • The taking of everything from King Bali in the form of Vamana • Parashurama's desecration of the earth • The killing of Hiranyakashipu • The end of Shishupala Meanwhile, a bumblebee comes and hovers near Radha Rani's feet. Radha Rani mistakes it for a messenger of Krishna and begins to express her heartache to it. This is where the deeply moving and wondrous "Bhramar Geet" begins. Seeing the pure, selfless, and supreme love of the gopis and Radha Rani, even Uddhava's wisdom bows before love. He realizes that the love of Braj is the highest truth in the world. Finally, Uddhava silently prays to Lord Krishna, "O Lord! You have sent me here not to deliver a message, but to learn the true meaning of love. This is your great mercy upon me."
